Inspired by the Japanese form language, Zen dishes is a designed ritual that re-introduces lost qualities of life. The contemporary ritual of washing dishes was studied on an emotional and social level to find qualities worth enhancing or reintroducing.
The result is a piece of furniture, dedicated to doing the dishes at the dining table. By using classical Dutch tools such as a ‘soap beater’ (zeepklopper), the dishes can be done while remaining seated by all the guests and without stopping the lingering (natafelen). It forms a social activity as well as means to pay respect to the host.
